Prayer of the Day

God of hope, you fulfilled your promise of a Savior to the children of Israel through Jesus, your Son. Help us to persevere in hope that we might rejoice as our redemption draws near. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Philippians 4:4-7 (ESV)

And do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you, God is able from these stones to raise up children for Abraham. 9 Even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees. Every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.”

10 And the crowds asked him, “What then shall we do?” 11 And he answered them, “Whoever has two tunics is to share with him who has none, and whoever has food is to do likewise.” 12 Tax collectors also came to be baptized and said to him, “Teacher, what shall we do?” 13 And he said to them, “Collect no more than you are authorized to do.” 14 Soldiers also asked him, “And we, what shall we do?” And he said to them, “Do not extort money from anyone by threats or by false accusation, and be content with your wages.”

15 As the people were in expectation, and all were questioning in their hearts concerning John, whether he might be the Christ, 16 John answered them all, saying, “I baptize you with water, but he who is mightier than I is coming, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 17 His winnowing fork is in his hand, to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his barn, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.” 18 So with many other exhortations he preached good news to the people.

Prayer for the Day

Thank You, Lord, for the promise of restoration and renewal. You turn our mourning into dancing and our fears into songs of joy. In Your great love, You have gathered us from the places of shame and brokenness, replacing them with hope and belonging. You remind us that You are not distant, but near, working even now to make all things new.

As we hear Paul’s call to “Rejoice in the Lord always,” we ask for hearts that rejoice even in the midst of uncertainty. Teach us, Lord, to bring our anxieties to You in prayer and to trust in Your peace, which surpasses all understanding. May Your peace guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus, grounding us in Your presence and Your promises.

We pray this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Redeemer and King. Amen.

For he is like a refiner’s fire and like fullers’ soap. 3 He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he will purify the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver, and they will bring offerings in righteousness to the LORD. 4 Then the offering of Judah and Jerusalem will be pleasing to the LORD as in the days of old and as in former years.

Luke 3:1-6 (ESV)

1 In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene, 2 during the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John the son of Zechariah in the wilderness. 3 And he went into all the region around the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. 4 As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. 5 Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be made low, and the crooked shall become straight, and the rough places shall become level ways, 6 and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.’”

Prayer of the Day

Gracious and Holy God, we come before You today, seeking to prepare our hearts for Your coming, just as John the Baptist called Your people to prepare the way for the Lord. We hear his voice echoing through the ages, calling us to turn from our distractions, our sins, and our pride, and to make straight paths for You in our lives.

Lord, help us to heed this call. Show us where the valleys of doubt and despair need to be filled with the assurance of Your love. Reveal the mountains of pride and selfishness in our hearts that need to be leveled by Your grace. Smooth out the rough places in our lives—those areas where sin has taken root or where we resist Your transforming work. In the name of Jesus, our Savior and King, we pray. Amen

As winter slowly approaches and days grow shorter, our hearts turn toward home. This Advent season, we invite you to join us on a journey of spiritual homecoming through our series "Coming Home." Each week, we'll explore what it means that God chose to make a home with us through Christ's birth.

Jeremiah 33:14-16 (ESV)

14 “Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will fulfill the promise I made to the house of Israel and the house of Judah. 15 In those days and at that time I will cause a righteous Branch to spring up for David, and he shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. 16 In those days Judah will be saved, and Jerusalem will dwell securely. And this is the name by which it will be called: ‘The LORD is our righteousness.’

Luke 21:25-36 (ESV)

25 “And there will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth distress of nations in perplexity because of the roaring of the sea and the waves, 26 people fainting with fear and with foreboding of what is coming on the world. For the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 27 And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28 Now when these things begin to take place, straighten up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”

29 And he told them a parable: “Look at the fig tree, and all the trees. 30 As soon as they come out in leaf, you see for yourselves and know that the summer is already near. 31 So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that the kingdom of God is near. 32 Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all has taken place. 33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.

34 “But watch yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly like a trap. 35 For it will come upon all who dwell on the face of the whole earth. 36 But stay awake at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.”

Prayer of the Day

Lord Christ, through repentance and faith make us truly a people prepared for the advent of your kingdom, when you fully establish your mighty yet gentle rule eternally. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Prayer for the Day

Lord, we come before You with hearts full of joy and gratitude. We give thanks for Your steadfast love and faithfulness that endures through all generations. Guide us to serve You with gladness and enter Your presence with praise. Remind us of the blessings You have bestowed upon us and help us to spread Your love and light to others. May our words and actions today bring glory to Your name. Amen.

Prayer of the Day

Lord, as we reflect on the impermanence of earthly things, grant us wisdom and courage. Help us to stand firm in our faith amidst uncertainties and challenges. Open our hearts to Your eternal truths and guide us to trust in Your steadfast love. May we find peace in Your promises and strength in Your presence today. Amen.

Prayer for the Day

Heavenly Father, help me to walk humbly, love mercy, and act justly in all that I do today. Guide my steps to reflect Your will, showing compassion and fairness to everyone I encounter. May I live out Your call with a heart full of grace and a spirit of humility. Amen.

Prayer of the Day

God of grace, remove from our lives all that distracts us from that which is ultimate and foundational; that is, to love you body and soul and to love our neighbor as we love ourselves. In the great name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

And as he was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a great crowd, Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, the son of Timaeus, was sitting by the roadside. 47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” 48 And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” 49 And Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” And they called the blind man, saying to him, “Take heart. Get up; he is calling you.” 50 And throwing off his cloak, he sprang up and came to Jesus. 51 And Jesus said to him, “What do you want me to do for you?” And the blind man said to him, “Rabbi, let me recover my sight.” 52 And Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him on the way.

Prayer for the Day

Lord, as Bartimaeus called out to You and was healed, we seek Your mercy and guidance today. Open our eyes to the needs of those around us and grant us the courage to ask for Your help. May our faith be unwavering, and our actions reflect Your love. Amen.

Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?” 39 And they said to him, “We are able.” And Jesus said to them, “The cup that I drink you will drink, and with the baptism with which I am baptized, you will be baptized, 40 but to sit at my right hand or at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared.” 41 And when the ten heard it, they began to be indignant at James and John. 42 And Jesus called them to him and said to them, “You know that those who are considered rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. 43 But it shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, 44 and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. 45 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Prayer for the Day

Lord, guide my heart in humility and service. Teach me to seek not power, but opportunities to serve others as Your son, Jesus, did. May I embody compassion and selflessness in all my actions. Amen.

[23] And Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, "How difficult it will be for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!" [24] And the disciples were amazed at his words. [25] It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God." Prayer of the Day

Gracious God, we accept your bountiful blessings with gratitude, but we pray that no attachment to the things of this world would keep us from the true treasure, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

1 As he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth. 2 And his disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” 3 Jesus answered, “It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him. 4 We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work. 5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” 6 Having said these things, he spit on the ground and made mud with the saliva. Then he anointed the man’s eyes with the mud 7 and said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which means Sent). So he went and washed and came back seeing.

8 The neighbors and those who had seen him before as a beggar were saying, “Is this not the man who used to sit and beg?” 9 Some said, “It is he.” Others said, “No, but he is like him.” He kept saying, “I am the man.”

Prayer of the Day

Bread of life, we confess that we are spiritually malnourished; we have fed on that which cannot satisfy the deepest longings of our soul. Fill us with the fullness of your grace and love, that our souls might be sustained eternally. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

The Prayer of Faith

13 Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. 16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. [1] 17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth. 18 Then he prayed again, and heaven gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit. 19 My brothers, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and someone brings him back, 20 let him know that whoever brings back a sinner from his wandering will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.

Prayer for the Day

We are grateful, O God, for the kindness you show us, far beyond our deserving. When we were far off, wandering and lost, you brought us near. You feed us on the bread of life. You nurture us in community. You call us your people. Help us to be kind to others, as well: not as ordinary human courtesy, and not when there is anything in it for us — but out of gratitude, sheer gratitude for what you have done for us. Amen.

For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man."

[34] And he called to him the crowd with his disciples and said to them, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. [35] For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel's will save it. [36] For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his life? [37] For what can a man give in return for his life? [38] For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels."

8 If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing well. 9 But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors. 10 For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become accountable for all of it. 11 For he who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.” If you do not commit adultery but do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law. 12 So speak and so act as those who are to be judged under the law of liberty. 13 For judgment is without mercy to one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? 17 So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. 18 But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.

Prayer of the Day

Spirit of love, you know our human frailties and weaknesses, not from a distance, but up close and personal through your Son. When we turn to you in faith for help, with even a weak faith, hear from heaven and grant us deliverance. In Jesus’ precious and powerful name. Amen.

7 in vain do they worship me, teaching human precepts as doctrines.'

8 You abandon the commandment of God and hold to human tradition."…

14 Then he called the crowd again and said to them, "Listen to me, all of you, and understand: 15 there is nothing outside a person that by going in can defile, but the things that come out are what defile….

21 "For it is from within, from the human heart, that evil intentions come: fornication, theft, murder, 22 adultery, avarice, wickedness, deceit, licentiousness, envy, slander, pride, folly. 23 All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person."

James 1:17-27

17 Every generous act of giving, with every perfect gift, is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. 18 In fulfillment of his own purpose he gave us birth by the word of truth, so that we would become a kind of first fruits of his creatures.

19 You must understand this, my beloved: let everyone be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger; 20 for your anger does not produce God's righteousness. 21 Therefore rid yourselves of all sordidness and rank growth of wickedness, and welcome with meekness the implanted word that has the power to save your souls.

22 But be doers of the word, and not merely hearers who deceive themselves. 23 For if any are hearers of the word and not doers, they are like those who look at themselves in a mirror; 24 for they look at themselves and, on going away, immediately forget what they were like. 25 But those who look into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and persevere, being not hearers who forget but doers who act—they will be blessed in their doing.

26 If any think they are religious, and do not bridle their tongues but deceive their hearts, their religion is worthless. 27 Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to care for orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

Prayer for the Day

Creator God, we hear in scripture that “in the beginning was the word.” You spoke into the silence, and a universe came to be. So eager were you for someone to listen that you created human beings in your own image. We acknowledge, Lord, that we are not always the best at listening to you: but we believe you always listen to us. Help us to be faithful in listening to one another: for such is the way of Christ. Amen

14 “Now therefore fear the LORD and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness. Put away the gods that your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD. 15 And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the LORD, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” 16 Then the people answered, “Far be it from us that we should forsake the LORD to serve other gods, 17 for it is the LORD our God who brought us and our fathers up from the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, and who did those great signs in our sight and preserved us in all the way that we went, and among all the peoples through whom we passed. 18 And the LORD drove out before us all the peoples, the Amorites who lived in the land. Prayer of the Day

Lord Christ, you have never promised that being your disciple is easy or popular. Forbid that we should ever be numbered among those who have fallen away from the gospel. By your Spirit, give us the grace to follow you all the way to the cross and beyond. In your precious name. Amen.

35 Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.

Prayer of the Day

Bread of life, we sometimes consume that which does not truly satisfy and seek to fill the hunger of our soul with the bread of this earth. Satisfy us with the bread of heaven, Jesus Christ, our Lord, that we might never hunger again. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

[5] Lifting up his eyes, then, and seeing that a large crowd was coming toward him, Jesus said to Philip, "Where are we to buy bread, so that these people may eat?" [6] He said this to test him, for he himself knew what he would do. [7] Philip answered him, "Two hundred denarii would not buy enough bread for each of them to get a little." [8] One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to him, [9] "There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are they for so many?" [10] Jesus said, "Have the people sit down." Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, about five thousand in number. [11] Jesus then took the loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed them to those who were seated. So also the fish, as much as they wanted. [12] And when they had eaten their fill, he told his disciples, "Gather up the leftover fragments, that nothing may be lost." [16] When evening came, his disciples went down to the sea, [17] got into a boat, and started across the sea to Capernaum. It was now dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them. [18] The sea became rough because a strong wind was blowing. [19] When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat, and they were frightened. [20] But he said to them, "It is I; do not be afraid." [21] Then they were glad to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land to which they were going.

Prayer of the Day

Merciful God, you desire that not only our physical needs be satisfied but that we be filled with the fullness of your love and grace through Christ Jesus our Lord. In the name of the compassionate Christ, we pray. Amen.

Prayer of the Day

O rock of ages, though the cause of evil seems to prosper, let us never lose faith that the cause of righteousness and justice will ultimately triumph. Give us the peace of your presence amidst a world of discord. In the powerful name of Jesus. Amen.

We thank you, gentle Lord Jesus, that you do not deal harshly with us, uprooting the good with the evil, but tenderly cultivate the shoots of faith and love. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

And he went about among the villages teaching.

7 And he called the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits. 8 He charged them to take nothing for their journey except a staff—no bread, no bag, no money in their belts— 9 but to wear sandals and not put on two tunics. 10 And he said to them, “Whenever you enter a house, stay there until you depart from there. 11 And if any place will not receive you and they will not listen to you, when you leave, shake off the dust that is on your feet as a testimony against them.” 12 So they went out and proclaimed that people should repent. 13 And they cast out many demons and anointed with oil many who were sick and healed them.

Prayer Of the Day

Living Christ, because of the skepticism of your hometown people, you could not do any great work there. Free us from unbelief, that you might accomplish great and glorious things in places we inhabit. In Jesus’ blessed and powerful name. Amen.

And when Jesus had crossed again in the boat to the other side, a great crowd gathered about him, and he was beside the sea. [22] Then came one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name, and seeing him, he fell at his feet [23] and implored him earnestly, saying, "My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and lay your hands on her, so that she may be made well and live." [24] And he went with him.

And a great crowd followed him and thronged about him. [25] And there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, [26] and who had suffered much under many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was no better but rather grew worse. [27] She had heard the reports about Jesus and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his garment. [28] For she said, "If I touch even his garments, I will be made well." [29] And immediately the flow of blood dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease. [30] And Jesus, perceiving in himself that power had gone out from him, immediately turned about in the crowd and said, "Who touched my garments?" [31] And his disciples said to him, "You see the crowd pressing around you, and yet you say, 'Who touched me?' " [32] And he looked around to see who had done it. [33] But the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came in fear and trembling and fell down before him and told him the whole truth. [34] And he said to her, "Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease."

[35] While he was still speaking, there came from the ruler's house some who said, "Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?" [36] But overhearing what they said, Jesus said to the ruler of the synagogue, "Do not fear, only believe." [37] And he allowed no one to follow him except Peter and James and John the brother of James. [38] They came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and Jesus saw a commotion, people weeping and wailing loudly. [39] And when he had entered, he said to them, "Why are you making a commotion and weeping? The child is not dead but sleeping." [40] And they laughed at him. But he put them all outside and took the child's father and mother and those who were with him and went in where the child was. [41] Taking her by the hand he said to her, "Talitha cumi," which means, "Little girl, I say to you, arise." [42] And immediately the girl got up and began walking (for she was twelve years of age), and they were immediately overcome with amazement. [43] And he strictly charged them that no one should know this, and told them to give her something to eat.

Prayer for the Day

Behold, Lord, empty vessels that need to be filled. Lord, fill them. We are weak in the faith; strengthen us. We are cold in love; warm us and make us fervent that our love may go out to our neighbors. We may not have a strong and firm faith; at times we doubt and are unable to trust you altogether. O Lord, help us. Strengthen our faith and trust in you. Amen. --Martin Luther

Prayer of the Day

God of seedtime and harvest, you have generously sown the good seed in our hearts. May what you have planted not only take root, but flourish, producing abundant fruits of faith and love. In the name above all other names we pray, Jesus, our Lord. Amen.

The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 18 All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Prayer of the Day

Spirit of God, you have planted the seed of faith in our hearts and rooted us in your kingdom. By your Spirit enable us to grow in faith, love, and obedience to your will, that we might reach the fullness of our potential in Christ. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Prayer Concerns

• A graveside service for Margaret Bierschwale will be held Friday, June 14th at 3 PM at the Junction City Cemetery. Please keep the family in your prayers.
• Thursday, June 20th there will be a Memorial Service for Marigrace Wheat Dyer at 1:00 PM in our Sanctuary, daughter of Jody and Martina Dyer. Please keep the family in your prayers.
• Ethan Welch the grandson of Paul Henry had an accident in FL and broke his back, he is in the ICU and will have a long road to recovery.
• Update on Jim Barker: I had a stent put into an artery on Monday and I am feeling much better. I am breathing well, and my energy level has improved. Thank you for your prayers.

Prayer of the Day

Spirit of love, you know our human frailties and weaknesses, not from a distance, but up close and personal through your Son. When we turn to you in faith for help, with even a weak faith, hear from heaven and grant us deliverance. In Jesus’ precious and powerful name. Amen.

1 Again he entered the synagogue, and a man was there with a withered hand. 2 And they watched Jesus, to see whether he would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse him. 3 And he said to the man with the withered hand, “Come here.” 4 And he said to them, “Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do harm, to save life or to kill?” But they were silent. 5 And he looked around at them with anger, grieved at their hardness of heart, and said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was restored. 6 The Pharisees went out and immediately held counsel with the Herodians against him, how to destroy him.

Prayer for the Day
Lord, we pray for the gift of discernment.
There are so many voices that cry out for our attention:
each one claiming to speak wisdom,
each one claiming to speak for you.
In an age of relativism,
may we never forget that
it is truth that you cherish;
and that truth is embodied for us
in Jesus Christ,
in whose name we pray. Amen.

Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. [2] This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him." [3] Jesus answered him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God." [4] Nicodemus said to him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?" [5] Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. [6] That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. [7] Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again.' [8] The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit."

[9] Nicodemus said to him, "How can these things be?" [10] Jesus answered him, "Are you the teacher of Israel and yet you do not understand these things? [11] Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know, and bear witness to what we have seen, but you do not receive our testimony. [12] If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you heavenly things? [13] No one has ascended into heaven except him who descended from heaven, the Son of Man. [14] And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, [15] that whoever believes in him may have eternal life."

[16] For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

[17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. [18] Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. [19] And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their deeds were evil. [20] For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. [21] But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his deeds have been carried out in God.

Prayer for the Day

Holy, holy, holy are you, Lord God of hosts: the whole earth is filled with your glory! Give to us, we pray, in moments of your own choosing, some glimpse of your glory — and of our own unworthiness. May such a vision be, for us, like a burning coal placed to our lips. May we be sanctified by your presence, and sent out on the road of life to respond obediently to your call to serve. Amen.

Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience. 26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. 27 And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. 28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

Prayer of the Day

O Spirit of wind and fire, breathe into our souls your life giving and life sustaining Spirit. Fan the embers of our feeble faith into full flame, that we might boldly witness to your love and grace, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer Of the Day

God of wisdom, fill us with your Spirit that we might understand the true meaning of our existence. Make your Christ the food that we eat, your Spirit the water that gives us life, that we might experience the true satisfaction of your fullness and grace. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. [10] If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love. [11] These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.

[12] "This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. [13] Greater love has no one than this, that someone lays down his life for his friends. [14] You are my friends if you do what I command you. [15] No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you. Prayer For the Day

You have not called us servants, O Christ. You have called us friends: allowing our spirits to soar over every barrier that separates us from true faith. How glorious it is to realize your love for us — yet how easy it is for our frail hearts to forget it! Keep our hearts ever close to yours, we pray. Amen.
