• Tomorrow, September 11th marks 20 years since our country was cowardly attacked by terrorists. A date that changed our lives in many ways. For Laurie and I, it will always be remembered as the day that we arrived in Junction. Looking forward to seeing you all on Sunday.
• Sunday School Kick Off Breakfast, Sunday September 12th 10:00 AM. Please bring a breakfast dish to share.
• Organizational meeting for Youth Group on Sunday, September 12th 6 PM.  Covered dish in the fellowship hall.
• From First Baptist Church - ADOPT AN EAGLE is back and we have roughly 30 staff that still need adopting!! Call the office 325-446-2125 or email us jfbc2125@gmail.com to get your Eagle today! As the new school year is under way, pray that you get the exact Eagle the Lord plans for you to have!

Mark 7:24-37 (ESV)

24 And from there he arose and went away to the region of Tyre and Sidon. And he entered a house and did not want anyone to know, yet he could not be hidden. 25 But immediately a woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit heard of him and came and fell down at his feet. 26 Now the woman was a Gentile, a Syrophoenician by birth. And she begged him to cast the demon out of her daughter. 27 And he said to her, “Let the children be fed first, for it is not right to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.” 28 But she answered him, “Yes, Lord; yet even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.” 29 And he said to her, “For this statement you may go your way; the demon has left your daughter.” 30 And she went home and found the child lying in bed and the demon gone.

31 Then he returned from the region of Tyre and went through Sidon to the Sea of Galilee, in the region of the Decapolis. 32 And they brought to him a man who was deaf and had a speech impediment, and they begged him to lay his hand on him. 33 And taking him aside from the crowd privately, he put his fingers into his ears, and after spitting touched his tongue. 34 And looking up to heaven, he sighed and said to him, “Ephphatha,” that is, “Be opened.” 35 And his ears were opened, his tongue was released, and he spoke plainly. 36 And Jesus charged them to tell no one. But the more he charged them, the more zealously they proclaimed it. 37 And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, “He has done all things well. He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”

James 2:1-18 (ESV)

1 My brothers, show no partiality as you hold the faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory. 2 For if a man wearing a gold ring and fine clothing comes into your assembly, and a poor man in shabby clothing also comes in, 3 and if you pay attention to the one who wears the fine clothing and say, “You sit here in a good place,” while you say to the poor man, “You stand over there,” or, “Sit down at my feet,” 4 have you not then made distinctions among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts? 5 Listen, my beloved brothers, has not God chosen those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom, which he has promised to those who love him? 6 But you have dishonored the poor man. Are not the rich the ones who oppress you, and the ones who drag you into court? 7 Are they not the ones who blaspheme the honorable name by which you were called?

8 If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing well. 9 But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors. 10 For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become accountable for all of it. 11 For he who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.” If you do not commit adultery but do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law. 12 So speak and so act as those who are to be judged under the law of liberty. 13 For judgment is without mercy to one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? 17 So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. 18 But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.

Scripture for Sunday (8/29/2021)

Saturday August 28th - Family Tubing trip meet at McMillan’s at 3:30
For our tube trip on Saturday, everyone will need to bring their own tube and lifejacket and if your child is in elementary school or younger they will need to be accompanied by an adult.

Saturday August 28th Fish Fry 6 PM at the McMillan’s River Place. Please bring a dessert or side dish to share. Come one come all!

Hebrews 11:1-16 (ESV)

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. [2] For by it the people of old received their commendation. [3] By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.

[4] By faith Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain, through which he was commended as righteous, God commending him by accepting his gifts. And through his faith, though he died, he still speaks. [5] By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death, and he was not found, because God had taken him. Now before he was taken he was commended as having pleased God. [6] And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. [7] By faith Noah, being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen, in reverent fear constructed an ark for the saving of his household. By this he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.

[8] By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. [9] By faith he went to live in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise. [10] For he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God. [11] By faith Sarah herself received power to conceive, even when she was past the age, since she considered him faithful who had promised. [12] Therefore from one man, and him as good as dead, were born descendants as many as the stars of heaven and as many as the innumerable grains of sand by the seashore.

[13] These all died in faith, not having received the things promised, but having seen them and greeted them from afar, and having acknowledged that they were strangers and exiles on the earth. [14] For people who speak thus make it clear that they are seeking a homeland. [15] If they had been thinking of that land from which they had gone out, they would have had opportunity to return. [16] But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city.

• Lisa Sandlin is having surgery this morning in San Antonio, please keep her in your prayers. 
• Saturday, August 28th Family Tubing trip 4 PM followed by a Fish Fry at 6 PM at the McMillan’s River Place. Please bring a dessert or side dish to share.
• For our tube trip Saturday everyone will need to bring their own tube and lifejacket and if your child is in elementary school or younger they will need to be accompanied by an adult. We will also need help getting the tubers to the starting point at Rob Roy’s.

Joshua 24:14-25 (ESV)

14 “Now therefore fear the LORD and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness. Put away the gods that your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD. 15 And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the LORD, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or th  e gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” 16 Then the people answered, “Far be it from us that we should forsake the LORD to serve other gods, 17 for it is the LORD our God who brought us and our fathers up from the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, and who did those great signs in our sight and preserved us in all the way that we went, and among all the peoples through whom we passed. 18 And the LORD drove out before us all the peoples, the Amorites who lived in the land. Therefore we also will serve the LORD, for he is our God.”

19 But Joshua said to the people, “You are not able to serve the LORD, for he is a holy God. He is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions or your sins. 20 If you forsake the LORD and serve foreign gods, then he will turn and do you harm and consume you, after having done you good.” 21 And the people said to Joshua, “No, but we will serve the LORD.” 22 Then Joshua said to the people, “You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen the LORD, to serve him.” And they said, “We are witnesses.” 23 He said, “Then put away the foreign gods that are among you, and incline your heart to the LORD, the God of Israel.” 24 And the people said to Joshua, “The LORD our God we will serve, and his voice we will obey.” 25 So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and put in place statutes and rules for them at Shechem.

It is that time of year again and we are doing our Adopt an Eagle program again this year! We had such an amazing outpouring of support last year that we decided for sure to do this program again! We are kindly asking you to please let your congregation know that the program is ready to have folks sign up for their Eagles for this year! Please let them know that they can call the office (325-446-2125) to sign up or they can email us and we can get them plugged in with a JISD staff member that way. We so appreciate the help of everyone to get the word out to get these staff members adopted out!! Thank you all so much and be blessed!!

Bobbi Lynn McLaughlin

Bobbi Lynn McLaughlin, 59, of Junction, Texas passed from this life on August 10, 2021 in Junction. Please be in prayer for the family.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM, Monday, August 16, 2021 at the First Baptist Church in Junction with Rev. Jim and Rev. Laurie Barker officiating. Interment will follow at Junction City Cemetery with a reception following at the First Presbyterian Fellowship Hall.

If you would like to help with food for the reception please call Dawn Keller at 830-609-8463.

Visitation will be held 3-5:00 PM, Sunday, August 15th at Kimble Funeral Home.
