Scripture
Matthew 21:1-17 (ESV)
Now when they drew near to Jerusalem and came to Beth-phage, to the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, [2] saying to them, "Go into the village in front of you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Untie them and bring them to me. [3] If anyone says anything to you, you shall say, 'The Lord needs them,' and he will send them at once." [4] This took place to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet, saying,
[5] "Say to the daughter of Zion, 'Behold, your king is coming to you, humble, and mounted on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden.' "  [6] The disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them. [7] They brought the donkey and the colt and put on them their cloaks, and he sat on them. [8] Most of the crowd spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. [9] And the crowds that went before him and that followed him were shouting, "Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!" [10] And when he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred up, saying, "Who is this?" [11] And the crowds said, "This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth of Galilee."
[12] And Jesus entered the temple and drove out all who sold and bought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons. [13] He said to them, "It is written, 'My house shall be called a house of prayer,' but you make it a den of robbers."
[14] And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple, and he healed them.  [15] But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying out in the temple, "Hosanna to the Son of David!" they were indignant, [16] and they said to him, "Do you hear what these are saying?" And Jesus said to them, "Yes; have you never read, " 'Out of the mouth of infants and nursing babies you have prepared praise'?" [17] And leaving them, he went out of the city to Bethany and lodged there.

Scripture & Questions for Sunday (3/22/15)

Sunday March 22 we will have a clean up day following morning worship. Please bring a bag lunch and come to church in work clothes.

Scripture
Matthew 25:31-46 (ESV)
"When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. [32] Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. [33] And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left. [34] Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. [35] For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, [36] I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.' [37] Then the righteous will answer him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? [38] And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? [39] And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?' [40] And the King will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.'
[41] "Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. [42] For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, [43] I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.' [44] Then they also will answer, saying, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?' [45] Then he will answer them, saying, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.' [46] And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

Scripture
Matthew 25:1-13 (ESV)
"Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. [2] Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. [3] For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, [4] but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. [5] As the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and slept. [6] But at midnight there was a cry, 'Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.' [7] Then all those virgins rose and trimmed their lamps. [8] And the foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' [9] But the wise answered, saying, 'Since there will not be enough for us and for you, go rather to the dealers and buy for yourselves.' [10] And while they were going to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut. [11] Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, 'Lord, lord, open to us.' [12] But he answered, 'Truly, I say to you, I do not know you.' [13] Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.

Questions for Reflection
1. When was a time you were late to an important event, and why were you delayed?
2. To what did Jesus compare the kingdom of heaven in this parable? (25:1)

4. How did the bridegroom respond when some virgins wanted to come to the wedding late? (25:12)
5. With what warning did Jesus conclude this parable? Why? (25:13)
6. In what ways do you tend to count on more mature Christians or try to ride their coattails?
7. What responsibility does each Christian have before God?
8. Why is continual preparation for Christ’s return better than “last minute cramming”?
9. What are the possible consequences of putting off thinking about Christ and spiritual growth until later?

Scripture & Questions for Sunday (3/8/15)

Scripture
Matthew 22:1-14 (ESV)
And again Jesus spoke to them in parables, saying, [2] "The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son, [3] and sent his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding feast, but they would not come. [4] Again he sent other servants, saying, 'Tell those who are invited, See, I have prepared my dinner, my oxen and my fat calves have been slaughtered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding feast.' [5] But they paid no attention and went off, one to his farm, another to his business, [6] while the rest seized his servants, treated them shamefully, and killed them. [7] The king was angry, and he sent his troops and destroyed those murderers and burned their city. [8] Then he said to his servants, 'The wedding feast is ready, but those invited were not worthy. [9] Go therefore to the main roads and invite to the wedding feast as many as you find.' [10] And those servants went out into the roads and gathered all whom they found, both bad and good. So the wedding hall was filled with guests.  [11] "But when the king came in to look at the guests, he saw there a man who had no wedding garment. [12] And he said to him, 'Friend, how did you get in here without a wedding garment?' And he was speechless. [13] Then the king said to the attendants, 'Bind him hand and foot and cast him into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.' [14] For many are called, but few are chosen."

Questions for Reflection

1. What do you like or dislike about weddings?
2. How do you tend to react when long-awaited plans fail to materialize?
3. How did people respond to the king’s invitation? (22:3)
4. Upon hearing that no one would come to the wedding, what did the king do? (22:4)
5. How did the invited guests react to the king’s second appeal? (22:5)
6. To what shocking acts did some of the people who were invited resort? (22:6)
7. The king went to a “Plan B” that included what changes? (22:8-9)
8. How did the king’s alternative plan work out? (22:10)
9. What keeps people from accepting Jesus’ offer of eternal life?
10. The wedding clothes in the parable that were needed for admittance to the banquet are meant to symbolize what quality that is necessary for entry into the kingdom of heaven?
11. What will happen to those who either reject Christ or try to enter His kingdom on their own terms?
12. In what area(s) of your life have you been putting off a response to what God has asked you to do?

Prayer Concern

Prayer Request from Diana Snodgrass.  Please add the following family members to our prayers list:

My brother-in-law, Wallace "Pepper" Snodgrass. He had heart surgery surgery yesterday and is doing great.   His wife and my sister-in-law, Jane Snodgrass, has just been diagnosed with lung cancer. She had an appointment last Friday with a surgeon to see if the cancer could be removed but couldn't get there because of the snow. So the appointment has not been rescheduled yet.

Their daughter Stephanie Kelton lives across the street from her parents. She is an RN and has almost finished her physician's assistant degree in psychology. She is a single mother who takes care of her parents when they are ill. So she will be caring for both parents through their difficult illnesses while finishing her degree and taking care of her teenage son.

Please pray for health and healing for both, Pepper and Jane, and strength for their daughter to help her parents, finish her schooling and be a mother to her son. They and I would appreciate all prayers.
